The best and easiest way would be to order a operating system CD set from Apple/Mac and do a re install putting it back to factory and setting up your own password(s). Cost about $30.00 Mac Software: http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/software?mco=OTY2ODUyNQ How to Restore Your Account Passwords on a MacBook Read more: How to Restore Your Account Passwords on a MacBook | eHow.com http://www.ehow.com/how_5934795_restore-account-passwords-macbook.html#ixzz1Ok0UwyOo

Bassman's answer is good. There is another possibility that isn't so good. If the mac book was stolen and sold to the pawn shop, a remote locking mechanism may have been triggered when you connected up to the internet. You might be able to bypass that with the system software reinstallation, but I'm not certain of that.
