Which is the best apple laptop for work?
I am looking to buy an apple laptop, but I need one that is: Fast Small enough to fit in a work bag Able to cope with a lot of information and programmes stored on it Able to link up to screen to present work On the other hand, would it be better to get a laptop from a different brand? Thank you.

I use a 15" MacBook PRO since (for me) it is the best balance of screen size, weight and power. The smaller screen sizes are OK too as long as you stick with the MacBook PROs. The MacBooks and Airs have much slower processors. The 17's are quite big and less portable. OK if they are in 'desktop' mode most of the time. If you decide to go with a PC, look at ASUS first. They are the second best in reliability after Apple - from the last PC World reliability survey. http://www.pcworld.com/article/211402/reliability_and_service_laptops.html

Powerbook G4 maybe, but probably a MacBook. If you're looking for something under $300, you may want to stick with a PC. Powerbooks are discontinued.

www.ebay.com

What sort of upgrades are you planning to make? You're not going to get a very new Macbook for that price.
3 :
Best bet would be to by a netbook which is 100% Mac Compatible and install the operating system on that. It will most likely be much more powerful than the laptop you find for that price.

What is better for college use, the apple laptop?

What is better for college use, the apple laptop or the dell?
My dad thinks I only want an Apple laptop because of the fact its an "Apple" laptop. He claims that you can find a dell laptop for a fraction of the cost and still get the same product. I think otherwise. I am looking for points to defend my case as to why an apple would be a better computer as opposed to a dell for 4 years in college. Thanks in advance! Note: I am going to be majoring in business

i would think the apple i have one its awesome
2 :
Your Dad is right, I'm afraid. Apple computers ARE high-quality machines, but they cost more than a comparable PC laptop, and a suitable PC laptop can indeed be a fraction of the price of an Apple.
3 :
Yeah a business major doesn't need an Apple, any computer would do fine, Apple is more for graphics design and video editing.
4 :
Apples are really fast and they are really exspensive but they are really good And apples if you use them in business they would work really well!
5 :
They are great. The battery in them last 3 times longer then they do in PC's so you only have to buy one of the mac's instead of 3 pc's. Also, you don't have to buy virus protector stuff that I don't know of because I never had a PC. They have incredible features. Good buy
6 :
macbooks are fantastic computers. they're perfect for any kind of word processing and anything you would need for that major. they're fast with great hard drives and you can pick how much space you want on it to start with when you buy it. plus you can get some programs pre-installed if you need/want them.
7 :
Your dad's right. Apple's are pretty impressive for software designers or film majors, and they're great for security (so it makes sense for people at high risk jobs). But for processing power, memory, etc.. it's true. You can get a Dell that's BETTER than an Apple on all points for 1/4 of the cost. If you're going to be a business major and did your research, you'd see that...
8 :
at my university, some departments use macs, others used PC's. find out what your university uses in that department. hopefully in your case, it uses apple.
9 :
I can't give you points to defend your case, sorry. Never had a problem with a Dell laptop. Instead of complaining about the type of laptop, just be glad to be getting a laptop from my parents, they could tell you to go buy it yourself. That's what I would do if my son complained about something like that!
10 :
this all depends on what you will be doing at college. if you are looking for good graphic interface and aesthetics, go for apple if your willing to spend the extra 500-1000. if you want something that will work just as good as a mac at student projects (ex. writing papers, powerpoint presentations, excel spreadsheets, etc.) and want it for a cheaper price, definitely go dell.
11 :
the apple laptop of course, it may be more expensive, but it has a lot more features and the features it has on it are a lot better also when you get a mac, you have plug and play which means that if you get like a new mouse or webcam or any external devise, you dont need all the software for it. it also last longer and you cant get viruses on macs

Provide your Dad with the value of the laptop over 4 years. And talk about the savings in the longterm. Or you can consider getting a new Dell laptop every 2 years. And still save money vs. buying a really nice Apple.
15 :
Dell have had issues with their batteries. But Toshiba is no different but I love Toshiba. But in the end ALL LAPTOPS ARE THE SAME just different programs. In the end it determine on how well you keep it up. If you do that it doesn't matter what brand you get.
16 :
Personally, I wouldn't advise you to get either brand. I have an HP and love it. It's so up to date, and comes with so much. Mine has a webcam and a built in CD burner with LightScribe, which allows you to burn pictures onto the front of CD's. And when you go to one, if you choose the HP, ask about personalizing it, that's what i did. I've been told by some other people that the Dell isn't nearly as nice as some say. And just because it the Apple brand, doesn't make it the greatest thing ever. But, since you know what you're going to need it for, go to each website and compare the two, see which one has more of what you need. Good luck.
17 :
Well, honestly your dad is right...at least for right now. I have an Apple and you have to buy software and install it on your computer in order to be able to use Windows applications (it's called Fusion). You don't have to do that with a Dell. Other than that, macs are awesome! Easy to transition between windows, everything's right there visible for you to see in a toolbar on your desktop. Lightweight and stylish.
18 :
There are NO PROs for a Dell computer, they just plain SUK. Here we go: Macs are easy and now you can get a Dual Processor that does Windows also. No other computer can make that statement. A MacBook 2.4, 4 Gigs Ram will do the trick for you. Lightweight and is a Heavyweight in performance. With Apple Stores usually close by it's easy way to get your computer fixed if it's a minor problem. They usually do right on the spot. With Dell in particular you have to send it to them [at your cost] and wait for at least 2 weeks to get it back. Almost no one will work on a Dell so Dell's got you. If you take the time to check Dell's website everyday you will see the same model computer configured slightly different and with a different price. Deceptive to say the least. Hope this helps you make a decision no matter which computer you buy. Here's why you should get a Mac:: There are NO CONS. The MacBook does both WinBloze and OSX, no other computer can make that statement. You have the best of the best. Apple Stores are popping up all over and you can make an appointment for a time and date, bring your computer there. They will troubleshoot it and fix it if it's a software problem it's FREE. What other computer company has stores and can make that statement? Get the 2.4 GHz with 4Gigs Ram and you got a speed machine like mine. The WinBloze people may not like a Mac computer but I'll bet they all have iPods. Go Mac and Never Go Back. Mac, the User Friendly Computer. If you read the questions here you will notice that most problems are about every computer except a Mac.
