Are you not able to download Windows Live Messenger on an Apple Laptop?
I can't figure out how to download it on my MacBook. I was wondering if you can't download it on Apple laptops because it is Windows.

I believe Microsoft make a client for OS X, but it isn't very good. You can get Adium from http://www.adiumx.com/ - most OS X users I know prefer it for their IM conversations. It can connect to the Windows Live Messenger network.

MSN messanger or (windows live messanger) CAN be downloaded on a Mac, you just need the right version. Go to www.downloads.com and type in windows live messanger (or msn messanger) for a mac into the search engine and it will give you options. The only problem with these versions is that some of the functions (like handwriting) doesn't work on mac because they ARE windows based applications. Hope this helped.

I have a screen broken apple laptop, but still working perfectly fine. I wonder if I can hook it up to my Dell's monitor to use it as a desktop or I'll have to buy Apple monitor exclusively? Thank you!

Yes, You will however need either one of these converters "apple mini dvi > vga/dvi" or "apple mini display port to vga/dvi". It depends on what your macbook has. Check the back of your monitor to see if you need a dvi or vga cable. VGA is blue usually and DVI is usually white and longer than vga. If you have both then use the DVI connection. Go to your nearest apple store with your macbook so they can see what ports you have and tell them what connection you need it to go to on the dell monitor and they will get you: 1x Apple mini display port/micro dvi to vga/dvi 1x DVI or VGA cable

I'm planning to buy my mother a new laptop for mother's day. She already has an old 2003 Dell laptop that she uses, but it crashes from time to time. So i decided to get her a fancy new apple laptop but when i seen how many they had, I was stumped.

You just have to go by price, pick how much you want to spend and buy the laptop that costs that much, but if she is getting by a dell from 2003 then she will not need a top of the range one. The more you pay the better it will be.

If she needs glasses for reading, get her something with a 15.6" screen. If it's portability, then a 14" laptop. If you have an Intel based Mac running Leopard, you can use Boot Camp, which ships with Leopard, to dual boot Windows and Mac OS. However, running Windows only is pretty weird, since you pay a premium for the Apple hardware. You'd be better served by spending the money on a more loaded Windows laptop.

Yes, it's mostly the same basic machine except the materials are nicer and the construction is more thought out. The OS is different which is the main factor for most people since it's easier to use. But the price remains the biggest drawback along with the rigid mentality of Apple. For that reason Apple computer will not have as much luck with a "second life" as most PCs does. Better? None is better, it depends what you need. Just understand that like most "popular" brands, you pay for a logo and a known name.

With enough tech savvy and tinkering, a regular laptop could also run the Mac OS. On some laptops it might run better, on some maybe not 100%. And since apple has now been using intel based processors, they can also now use windows and linux OS. But the thing that that an apple laptop have that very few other laptops have is the IPS LCD screen, it is superior to regular LCD screens. But other laptops are catching up by using the cheaper LED screen. All in all, buying into apple products is all about design and style. Since the introduction of Windows 7 and apple shifting to use intel processors, the line between any other laptop with an apple thins more and more. It is the higher end machines really that makes the difference. The Mac Book Pro and the Air, especially the Mac Book Air. Very few laptops can compare to the weigh to performance of the Air.

It depends on who you ask. You couldn't convince me to EVER give up my Macbook, but my brother-in-law absolutely hates when he has to use my computer. Personal preference. I switched to Apple because I was so sick of getting viruses on my other laptop. After using my other laptop for a couple of years it would run so agonizingly slow that it was worth paying the extra money for my Mac. The viruses that infect Windows don't impact Mac at all. I have had the same Macbook for 5 years now, and I can't tell that it has slowed down at all. I love that. They do use different operating systems so some programs won't work with Mac's OS. That's a common complaint about Macs, but I think for the most part now they have software specifically for Mac that is compatible. Not everything will work though.

Oh, they're brilliant. You pay so much more for them (even more than other branded laptops). Plus they cost more to fix and you won't be able to run any of that useless PC software! And you get to be part of the Apple 'Community'! How awesome is that?!

Have you noticed who many people are quick to say Macs are "crap", but make no attempt to justify what they say? Unlike them, I can stand by my statements. It's easy to justify something when some thought has gone into the opinion. It amazes me how many people try bash Macs when their own words make it painfully clear that they have no clue what they are talking about. If Macs where so obviously inferior and not worth the price tag, no one would buy them. Here are few of my favorite Mac myths: 1) Macs are more expensive than PC's a) Macs have a USEFUL life about twice that of PC's. A Mac user will be replacing his computer half as often. Have you ever tried selling a 6 year old PC? Macs are cheaper than PC's. Go to eBay or some other auction site to see the proof. People buy more old Macs than old PCs. b) In my PC using days, I would plan on buying hardware after bringing home a new computer. Not when I get a new Mac. This too, is part of the cost of using a PC. c) When you add to the "cheaper" PC to make it the same as the "expensive" Mac, you get about the same price. PC's have a lower price tag because you are buying less. 2) Everyone uses Windows. a) Really? Why are we having this conversation? b) According to a July 2008 article in Macworld, Apple is now the third largest computer company in the world. This means only two PC makers (Dell and HP) are bigger. Hundreds are smaller. 3) Windows is better at games than Macs. a) And a game console is better at games than Windows. 4) Not enough software/hardware for the Mac. a) With the exception of games (read #3), there is no class of software available for Windows not available for the Mac. b) Volume? There is a larger selection for Windows than for the Mac, but walk down the aisle and see how much is crap and/or outdated (and discounted) software. c) Hardware selection for the Mac is lesser in number, but not as it is for software. We have Netgear wi-fi router in our home. Our son has an Apple laptop. We don't want him to be IMing etc. when doing homework. Is there a way to disable internet function without unplugging the router? Unplugging router works but then no one else can be on line either.

Well, you should be able to get into your router's setup from one of your PCs (methods for this vary, consult the router's manual) and disable *just* the wireless network. Anyone physically plugged into the router would still be able to get online, so if the laptop is the only thing connecting wirelessly, that would work.

What are the pros and cons of your Apple laptop? I'm in the market, and thinking seriously about the new apple macbook pro, but I NEED to know what to expect before I decide for sure. Is this a wise decision? I'll be doing lots of writing on it, so I need a GREAT battery and something that won't freeze. I want exceptional quality, will I find it with Apple or do I need to go elsewhere? PLEASE HELP!!!

The only con of Macs are the price. For the price you spend on a decent Mac laptop, you could get a super computer Dell laptop. It's all about how much you want to spend.

Apple has the top rated laptops for battery life, & tech support. You get to not worry about 115,000 Windows viruses. I have both an iMac and a MacBook, I have never had either computer freeze completely. If an application freezes, you can force quit it and continue without restarting the computer. Both are wi-fi ready and have built in webcams and a ton of software.

I agree with Kahless. I've had my MacBook for over a year - and I wouldn't change! Granted, I did have the factory-installed hard drive fail on me after a little over a year (when the warranty had just expired). However, with that being said, replacement hard drives are not all that expensive. But moreover, technology is faulty. Any hard drive could go at any time. It's just the nature of the beast. So, aside from the hard drive, the MacBook has been wonderful! I don't have to worry about viruses, and the programs it comes loaded with are great! If ever you should have to use Microsoft applications, they make Mac versions so that your files will transfer seamlessly from a Mac to a PC. The battery life of Macs are also very good. The entire system has never frozen on me; only a select few applications when there are a lot running. Every computer has it's flaws - but I would recommend Apple most definitely. It has less.

How do i connect my apple laptop with my cannon printer?
I bought an apple laptop and cannon printer that were compatible on the apple website. The printer guide said i needed to plug in the USB from the printer to the laptop. The problem is, it didn't come with a USB cable. Shouldn't it have come with this? I tried other USB's but none of them fit right. Do i contact Apple because it should have come with a USB? or do I just go somewhere and buy one?

which one is a good apple laptop or just imac computer?
I want to know which one is a good apple laptop because there are 4 or 5 different kind.

There are actually three different kinds: The MacBook, The MacBook Pro, and the MacBook Air. Avoid the Air at all costs. The Pro and the normal ones are both good and have decent specs. The battery life of these laptops is outstanding and they both come with Snow Leopard which is much better than Vista (you probably know this). So the only thing left to wonder is how much money you're willing to spend. The Macbook and the Pro are not very different spec wise to be honest. The Macbook Pro comes in three different screen sizes (13, 15, and 17 inches) and are under 1 inch thick. An iMac is a good alternative because it will be cheaper than a laptop but you lose the portability (even though they are thin they still weigh a good 30 pounds). It really is up to you what you buy.

Where can I purchase an Apple imac (laptop) and pay it off in payments?
Where can I purchase an Apple imac (laptop) and pay it off in payments?
I really need an apple laptop and they are just too expensive ($1000.00) and I was wondering if there is any place that I could rent to own the laptop and pay in payments per month, like $100 - $300 per month, plus interest fee's etc....I don't qualify for a loan or any kind of credit. ASus has the best reliability on par with apple. They have a pretty nice warranty also.

Well there isn't really a "best", and in my opinion *based on a price per performance basis* every windows laptop is better then an apple. It depends on your price range and what you want to do with said laptop. Since you mentioned you didn't want to buy an apple, you have a budget of like $1000 lets say. If you are into gaming, you can get a fairly decent gaming laptop for that price, but the battery life and size can be annoying if you want to carry it around with you. If you want to watch movies and take it with you, a lighter, smaller laptop would be your best bet. But an HP, Toshiba, MSI, Asus, all of which are good brands. Hope this helps!!!

I just got a new apple lap top and i have no idea how to get all my songs from that computer to my laptop i really need help because i spent a lot of money on my songs and i am moving away and my parents want me to delete itunes please help please!! If i do take out the hard drive then how long does that take and will it keep all my infomation like the album and the name of the song because if i do it iwht just burning the cds it takes forever and i have to edit every single song soooo what do i dooo

There are only two ways. 1. Would be to take the harddrive out of the dell and put it into the apple and get the songs onto your computer. 2. Burn all the songs onto a CD and then import them into your computer.

its very simple, where do you store all your music, if its in the itunes folder just copy the folder to your new laptop, same location, this should work fine. If all your songs are not in the itunes folder find those folder and copy it over. The problem arises if you are not going to have it in the same place with the same user name. itunes will report the files missing. BTW, the Mac is more likely to see the Dell than vice versa based on the default security settings for each machine. If you're running a Mac which is powered by an Intel Processor and has "Bootcamp" then yes, it is possible.

No,but you can download a windows vista mask and it looks like vista!Trust me!!!

Yes you can run it natively using Apple Bootcamp or via virtualization using VMWare Fusion or Parallel.

You can run vista on the laptop by using boot camp. That will create seperate partitions that will allow vista to be on one and mac on the other. If you use a parallel program to run windows through mac then it cuts your resources in half and it will be tough for vista.

You can install Bootcamp (which comes free with the apple laptop) which sets up a second partition for your Windows OS, so you can choose on startup whether to boot in Windows or Mac OS. Or you can buy a third party program like Parallels or VM ware's Fusion which will allow you to run Windows as a virtual machine over top of Mac OS (both programs are great so it's down to personal preference) The only downside with the virtual machine option is that you are running two Operating Systems simultaneously, which means that the processor and ram is shared between the two (not a big deal unless you're doing high end gaming, if you are then bootcamp is better) As for HDMI there's no apple laptop that has an HDMI port but all apple laptops (except the air) have either a full size DVI port (pro's) or a mini-DVI which you can get a $20.00 adapter to convert to full size DVI. Anyways, I'm looking for a cheap apple laptop that DOES NOT have a shiny display screen and is in good working condition. Preferrably with plenty of storage but not required. Can I watch videos on an Apple Laptop that were originally downloaded onto my PC?
I down loaded a few movies on my pc and stored them on a USB flashdrive. I think that they were saved as an .avi extention. Can I watch any videos on an Apple Laptop from the flashdrive? What types of video media players can I used then? Is it easy to convert movies download from a PC and watch them on an Apple?

It will play files off a flash drive, CD/DVD drive or hard drive. And you don't need to bother converting movies from your PC to play on the Mac -- VLC will play them without that hassle.

Some are saying in January, because that's when the convention is. Do you know when the new apple laptop will be released? Hopefully sometime before august of 2010? (because that's when I start college). Thanks!

Most likely in January or February. They always release before students go off to college. If you wait until early summer, you may be able to get a free iPod touch, if you buy from the Apple online education store.

i am 13 years old and have a christmas budget of about $400. i want an apple laptop and it needs a webcam. the only problem is that they are all really expensive but i know i can get one for a much cheaper price.

The most likely chances with a budget of $400 for a Mac, is either a broken one, used crappy condition one, or you can't get one. Macs range for about $1000 - $1500. Having it being used, cutting off half price doesn't even make it to about $400, most likely be it $500 - $800 if it was used, since most days, everyone cleans it and refurbishes it, to make it as best as possible. Some people even clean the hard drive. However, even if you did have the money, I wouldn't recommend a Mac. Why? Well, Why would you pay extra for a PC that won't be able to do a lot for you? Macs are meant for only Internet browsing, making documents (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and for taking pictures, and making movies. Those boring stuff. At your age, I'm most likely sure that there should be more entertainment in your life, and if not, then I'm very sorry to say, you have a boring young-teen life. But if you like to have fun making charts on Excel and practicing to spell and write on Word, then by all means, go get a Mac. If you seem like you won't be having fun graphing, then go with a PC. PCs can do everything a Mac can do, however, Macs cannot do everything a PC can do. Don't get a Mac. Besides, you don't even need to follow the crowd. Get the better. Why follow the crowd when you know you'll end up with the lower. So, from here on, I am going to trust that you are getting a PC. Now from which manufacturer should I get my PC from? - HP, Dell, or ASUS I really recommend HP and ASUS, however, you'll most likely find cheap ones from Dell, however, just do know that Dells will not last you long. If you'd like a cheap Dell, yet sort of good, go with the Dell Inspiron 15. Just use your computer wisely, saying, treat your computer how you want it to treat you. Basically call it an All-In-One PC Manufacturer. Another great benefit is that, they can put all this into portable sized laptops and, furthermore, make those laptops look stylish and great. Dell and ASUS - They are very similar because they each create PCs separately for each and different categories of PC usage. Meaning, they build one for gaming, one for entertainment, one for work, etc. -Dell - Dell can overprice many of their products, and is a reason why I would rather go with ASUS. Dell doesn't fail however, I still tend to not like them. If you're looking for an average computer, they're best computer, yet, is their Aspiron 15. You won't need their Alienware. -ASUS - I like ASUS and HP. ASUS can make great computers and they can even make All-In-One PCs too, depending on how you treat their computers. well, the simple answer is that if your trying to get a brand new mac, you cant. at least, not with that budget. apple computers are extremely expensive. the two options you have are to A) gain a larger Christmas budget somehow or B) buy a used mac from a friend or online. the usual trend in apple users is to buy a new laptop, use it for a few years until its outdated, sell it online for slightly less than its original price, and use the money to buy a new, up-to-date computer. if you do buy a used apple online I would recommend newegg.com. it usually has any item your looking for (but especially computers and computer accessories) for decent prices. just have your parents look over the reviews and choose an appropriate purchase. . but personally, I do NOT recommend buying a used apple because you cant upgrade apples. once they're out of date you cant buy new parts or software, you have to buy a brand new one for a large sum of money.

Is there any reason why I should buy an Apple laptop directly from Apple vs. an authorized reseller?
I'm looking to buy a new Apple laptop, but I've noticed the prices rarely (if ever) get lower if you buy directly from Apple (either online or at a store). There is no reason to not buy from Amazon or other such retailers. As long as those retailers confirm for you in writing that they will honor the warranty then you're fine. You can still add Apple Care (extended warranty) if you buy from a authorized reseller. You might want to consider a refurbished laptop from the Apple store. You can get some wicked deals there. And they go through intense testing. I know lots of people that buy from there and have no issue with the gear (and save a bunch of cash). The brand new MacBook and MacBook Pro have a nice fancy new case and a slightly better graphics card, with a minimal processor upgrade. But, if you go 1 gen back from the refurbished ones you can save as much as $1000 (MacBook Pro 1 gen old, 2.5GHz, 250GB drive, 2GB ram, 512MB GPU, for like $1499, but the same one with the current gen and its like $2499). Good luck.

Do you have an operating system disk for apple if so and it is like a PC you can hit f10 on boot and go into the bios while in the bioas you could reformat your hard drive that will erese everything then reload the apple OS your done I have no clue if this works on mac I am a PC guy

How do I get a CD out of an Apple laptop?
How do I get a CD out of an Apple laptop?
I put a CD into my apple laptop to try and upload it to Itunes, but it never showed up as actually being in the computer, and there is not eject button on the Mac like on other laptops. I can't find any way to get the CD out. Help please!

Open drawer same way as you did to INSERT the disc !!!

push the eject button on the corner of your keyboard. it looks sorta like an arrow.

There is an eject button on the keyboard, in the upper right hand side. You can also drag the CD icon to the trash can. Or you can go to the finder, and next to the CD icon on the left, there should be a clickable eject icon.

open it the same way you inserted if its stuck use a hairpin or a lock pick.

In order to eject a cd that has not mounted, reboot and as the machine is rebooting, continually press shift and click the mouse ( shift, click, shift ,click). This is a force eject...Good luck

there should be a very small hole on the front of the drive. Unfold a paperclip and poke it in there. That should force the door open. This happened with my g4 and that worked. If all else fails, take it to an Apple store (if there is one where you live) or a big computer store, like Comp USA, they should be able to help you put at little to no cost. Also, mark that cd with a sharpie, so you don't use it again. I got the same cd stuck twice, d'ohh!

A couple of ways. As mentioned previosly, press the disc eject key which is on the upper right of your keyboard. Reboot the machine, which will sometimes automatically kick out the disc. Now, if you inserted a mini-disc, you're going to have to physically fish it out. Mac laptops use a "toaster slot" drive, and can't do mini-discs.

Simple answer: Apple has a bit more than 25% of the computer market share, thus at least 25% of the questions here due to computer problems should be for Macs if both Mac and Windows machines are comparable. You'll notice that very few questions here are due to Mac problems. (I'd have to guess, but I'll bet it is less than 2 or 3%.) HP makes a quality product, (probably on par with Apple.) but they are using Windows. That is their weakness and makes them vulnerable to the same problems as the cheaply made computers. I'll let you do the math, but I'm sure you know which I would choose.

Sorry if this bursts your bubble but apples suck unless you have windows on them. The PC is customizable. That's really all you need to decide but here are some other factors. First, OSX isn't compatible with most applications people would normally like to download and run. Second, If an apple computer freezes up, there's probably something wrong with the registry. You "can't get viruses" on a mac so it has to be a registry error or something along the lines of that. Also there is no variety in apple computers. Its always going to be the same. Just like Iphones. Same apps, same OS. If you're buying for the specs only then I wouldn't suggest either one. You should buy a desktop that's fairly cheap. Make sure none of the components are integrated. Replace hardware as needed to make your expectations and it should be much cheaper than either one. But if you still insist on buying a laptop, buy the Hp. You can never go too wrong with a PC but if a mac screws up, you can't modify it. I hope this helped you.

I'd say go for the Mac. I've had mine for almost a year and by this time a Windows PC would start to become slow by now even when using maintenance programs like CCleaner, Disk Cleaner and Auslogics Disk Defrag. People think Mac users never used a Windows PC before or something. I know more about both Windows and Mac than the average user out there. Maintenance, security, organization is my top priorities. I have years of experience with Windows PCs and I wouldn't choose a Mac over them and stick with it for no reason.

It's the same parts. If you buy the apple computer, you are going to pay maybe 2x as much, and the hardware is more prone to fail because of the quality of parts they use. If you are not a complete idiot, you won't need to worry about viruses, I would recommend the HP. If you are a complete idiot, and you click on every link you see and you fall for internet gimmicks and trickery a lot, get a mac. But it isn't going to save you from viruses and whatnot forever.

If you are a novice computer user or don't really care how your computer works with you, then just go out and by a mac. For people who really just want a computer to use a computer, macs are excellent. They last a long time, they are easy to use and work seamlessly with your basic programs. However, if your a pro and need upgradability, customization, and useful features buy the HP
