Will Apple be doing the Laptop with a free i-pod touch this summer?

Will Apple be doing the Laptop with a free i-pod touch this summer?
I know last year Apple had a promotion where if a "college student", or any student i guess, bought an Apple laptop, they got a free ipod touch. Does anyone know if they will be doing that again this summer?? thanks!

Nothing official from Apple but I'm pretty sure it'll happen again. I've seen this happen 2008, 2007, and 2006. Apple does the buy a Mac get an iPod free (after rebate) promotion over the summer around July and August, ends in September. Last year you could choose a 3G Nano or a 1G iPod Touch. So in 2009 I would suspect a 4G Nano and 2G Touch would be the choices. I'd wait for the sale. Also, with an educational discount, you can save $50-100 and a free iPod.

Apple laptop never have problems on viruses?

is it true that an apple laptop never have problems on viruses?
my cousin told me that an apple laptop won't have viruses and don't need anti-virus but he doesn't even have one, so to the ones who own an apple laptop, is it true?

It is a lot, lot less likely to get them than Windows but is by no means completely safe.
2 :
Your cousin is stupid for not having an anti-virus, Mac or not. Macs are for uninformed suckers.
3 :
It's true. However, it's also true that an apple isn't compatible with hardly anything. It's much more difficult to find software and printers that work with it. Pretty much everything you buy for it has to be apple.
4 :
er, this is a common myth associated with MAC. put it this way, 98% of the world population own Microsoft, therefore the remaining 2% use MAC(Apple). This is a tiny percentage of the world and the risk of catching a virus is singifcantly lowered because of the different programming. Although the risk is lowered, it doesnt mean the computer can not get a virus, it just means that the chance of you getting one is lower than if you used Microsoft.

Myth: Apple laptops running OSX does need any antivirus protection because OSX is already so secure. Fact: OSX was hacked by a college student in under 30 minutes: http://www.zdnet.com.au/news/security/soa/Mac-OS-X-hacked-under-30-minutes/0,130061744,139241748,00.htm No operating system is completely safe from trojans and malware.

No its not true that they NEVER have problems relating to virus'. However, you are a lot less likely to get virus' on a mac as macs are less common. It's not that mac's are harder to hack, its because windows computers are so much more common, your average hacker wants to attack as many peoples computers as possible, and since most people have windows he/she makes virus's for windows computers, which don't work on macs. Personally I believe macs (OS X) is a much better system than windows. I have had mine for over 2 years and never had a virus, its ever crashed, and it has never slowed down, despite consant use, an almost full hard drive, and hundreds of programs for it. Windows computers are more compatable with programs. However, as macs are becoming more popular, almost every mainstream program now has a mac equivilant, so you really don't need to worry about compatability. The only case which this is a worry is if you work at an office with its own sofwtware, this may not work on a mac, so its best to check out with the tech guys before buying it, if you're going to be using it for work. Problem is, as macs become more and more popular, which is what is happening (as they are so great!) then people are more and more tempted to create virus' for macs. Therefore anti virus sofware and firewalls are more and more important for macs. However, personally i just use my router firewall and nothing on my mac and I've never had a problem (I know people will complain at me for this, but in the end everythings backed up, and my anti virus software isnt slowing down my mac) Anyway good luck and I would recomend you do get a mac, but dont 100% feel that that by doing so, you will be exept from all virus;.

It is a myth; not true at all. You are less likely to experience a virus, because most "hackers" set out to destroy/attack millions of people at once. With this goal in mind, Windows has more users that can be affected than Mac users. Therefore, most viruses are written for Windows and not Mac or Linux operating systems. This does not mean that you should not get anti-virus protection, because it is not a secret to "hackers" that many Mac users (like your cousin) believe that they are secure from viruses, so Macs are easy computers to constantly monitor without ever being found out. So, make sure you get some anti-virus protection on your Mac. ALL computers need anti-virus protection.

Many security officials do say the Macs are less secure then windows, yet there is significantly less malware on an Apple computer for two main reasons. 1: the lower market share (9% compared to window's 90%) discourages malware writers 2: the default security setting are better then windows xp. (but NOT windows vista and 7) Now there is a slowly growing amount of mac-native malware. A few peices of mac malware is written every month. This they got another variation of the Tored e-mail worm and more sighting of malicious hackers tricking mac users into install a program using the DNS trojan to steal personal info. (like card numbers) If you do basic internet safety rules, one can prevent viruses appearing on any Mac OSX or Windows Vista OS.

Yes. Simply reformat the iPod to the Macintosh setting from iTunes. Alternatively, you could keep it in the Windows setting, OS X has no problem with this and can use it just fine.

The young man above me just said exactly what I was going to say. It's true, give him the best answer.
